JEFFERSON YOUTH CENTER OPEN YEAR-ROUND FOR VARIETY OF PROGRAMS
The Town of Tonawanda Youth, Parks & Recreation department is excited to get back to (hopefully) normal, with its Kids Club program resuming this September at the former Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, located at 250 Athens Blvd. The department successfully provided childcare to families who needed it during the summers of 2020 and 2021, but COVID cases and restrictions closed the youth center for much of the school year and attendance numbers were low due to the hybrid school format.
“We provide a safe place for children to come; they can get their homework done here or they can socialize with other kids their age, enjoying our facility and our planned activities, led by experienced staff,” said Nicole Ruberto, the Town’s Youth Bureau Director who oversees the program.
Jefferson features a gymnasium, auditorium, game room, lounge, computer lab, auditorium, playground, outdoor space, and several classrooms used for programming such as arts and crafts, enrichment activities like STEM projects, and more.
The department hopes to offer Start Smart Basketball and/or a Youth Basketball League, Kids Night Out, Parent & Me, Middle School Nights, and Family Fun Nights later this fall at the Jefferson Youth Center, as long as enrollment and staffing allows, as they have in the past.
Jefferson Kids Club is open 2:45-6:00pm on school days with daily and monthly membership options. YPR also offers a Vacation Club from 8:00am to 6:00pm on full days that school is closed, such as Veterans Day, Superintendent Conference Day, and February break. Vacation Club memberships are $40 per day or $30 per day for Kids Club members.
