Computer Forensics has been a quickly expanding area of challenge in modern law enforcement. The growth of High Technology Crime, including Internet Fraud, Internet related child pornography investigations, and the threat of Cyber Terrorism has been of increasing concern. Computer Forensics is closely linked with the investigation of many traditional crimes as well. The ability to examine the contents of computer hard drives has become increasingly crucial to contemporary law enforcement agencies.

The Town of Tonawanda Police Department, in association with the United States Secret Service, has developed a fully functional computer forensics investigative unit. Initial equipment purchases were made with federal grant and task force funding. Detective William Fleming is assigned to the Forensic Unit and has received extensive technical training over the last several years.

The unit has continued to expand it's equipment and investigator's education and training in the area of computer crime, computer forensics, as well as mobile device forensics.

Detective Fleming is also assigned to the United States Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force (ECTF) and the New York State Internet Crimes against Children Task Force (ICAC).
