Streets and Highways
Keeping Our Community Routes in Top Condition
The Town of Tonawanda contains more than 200 miles of streets and highways. The town uses a systematic plan of road repair, maintenance and snow removal to keep them in top condition, and keep traffic flowing smoothly and safely.
Maintenance Fleet Vehicles
A fleet of sweeper / vacuum units is used throughout the year on a regular basis to clean streets and sewers. In addition, a fleet of salters, sanders and snow removal equipment, maintained in our own shop and equipped with two-way radios, keeps roads free of snow and ice.
Major Street Resurfacing
The Town Highway Department
has implemented a program of major street resurfacing. A process known as road milling is used to remove deteriorated surface material prior to resurfacing. This maintains the road surface in the proper relationship to existing curbs.
