Big Game Requirements
All residents who hunt deer or bear must have in their possession while hunting a valid big game, sportsman or junior archery license. During the archery season, a bowhunting stamp also must be attached to the validated license.

Residents hunting bear or legally antlered deer with a longbow during the regular season must possess both a valid big game license and either a current bowhunting stamp or a valid bowhunting education certificate.

During the muzzleloading season a muzzleloading stamp also must be attached to the validated license.

Bowhunting Stamp
A certificate of qualification issued upon bowhunter education course completion must be presented to purchase a junior archery license or a bowhunting stamp.

Applicants for a bowhunting stamp must produce a New York State bowhunting stamp dated 1980 or later, a junior archery license or a certificate of qualification issued or honored by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. Certificates honored are those issued by:
  • National Field Archery Association or National Bowhunter Education Foundation issued in 1974 or later in any state
  • Any state or provincial fish and wildlife agency (certificate or card must specify the course was for bowhunting and not a general hunting course with a bowhunting segment)
  • Ontario Bowhunters Association (on green or brown letterhead stationery with moosehead-bow and arrow emblem until July 31, 1987)
  • Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (on letterhead after August 1, 1987)
