The Town's Patrol Division is composed of three platoons. Each platoon is staffed with a Captain, 3 Lieutenants, and approximately 20 Patrol Officers. The responsibilities of the Patrol Division are preservation of the rights of citizens, prevention of crime and the protection of persons and property. Each year, the Patrol Division responds to approximately 42,000 calls for service, 6,000 of which involve some type of crime. In addition, patrol issued 18,048 traffic summons.

Supplementing the normal patrol activities, specially trained officers may be assigned to enforcing commercial truck laws, radar details or plain-clothes assignments. Officers are very active monitoring underage alcohol and tobacco sales, and, when necessary, enforcing state laws that regulate sales. Officers very often will attend community group meetings or may be assigned to one of the satellite offices located in Parkside Village Courts or Lincoln Park.
